In order to promote the highest level of service to the general public and the university community, the use of voicemail on main office numbers is discouraged during the normal working day. However, in the spirit of service after business hours and holiday periods, voicemail is an accepted method to provide information and collect messages.
Telecommunications offers voicemail service to the university campus. This service provides an effective method of communicating; both internally and with the public. Voicemail offers faculty and staff the ability to leave a comprehensive, recorded voice message to one or many individuals. Messages can then be retrieved, stored, or forwarded to another mailbox. In addition, pager notification is available to notify the mailbox holder of a message. A university office, department or college should establish a "need" for voicemail service. Once the "need" is established, a justification of that "need" should be given to the Director, Department Chair, or Dean for approval and funding.
