George W. Shaver, Psy.D., Director. Joined the RCLD July 2006.

 

 

George received his Doctor of Psychology degree from George Fox University. He completed a predoctoral clinical internship at Eastern Virginia Medical School, and he subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at the University of Virginia Medical School. George also holds a Master of Divinity degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Tennessee. His research interests include the effects of effort and motivation in cognitive testing. Prior to becomming director, he served for 2 years as the center's Licensed Psychologist. He also teaches courses related to clinical neuropsychology within the Department of Psychology.

 

Beverly M. Sermons, Ed.D., Liaison. Joined the RCLD February 2006.

 

 

Beverly holds a Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Administration from Florida State University, a Master of Health Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Florida, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Valdosta State University. She currently serves as the RCLD Liaison to promote and maintain contact between the feeder schools and the Center. She assists in the referral and feedback process of testing, disseminates information, assists feeder schools in policy development, and provides in-services/workshops related to students with learning disorders. She also serves as a member of a team to make decisions about programs and accommodations for students tested at the Center and/or those whose outside documentation is reviewed by RCLD staff. Beverly's professional career in counseling and education administration spans more than twenty-five years of excellence in service.

R. Susan Jackson, M. Ed., Learning Disability Specialist. Joined the RCLD October 1996.

 

 

Susan received her Masters in Education from Valdosta State College, and her Bachelor of Music from Wesleyan College. She began her professional career as the chorus director at Tallulah Falls School in Tallulah Falls, Georgia, and was later employed as a teacher of students with Learning Disabilities, Behavioral Disorders, and Mildly Mentally Impaired in the Tift County and Berrien County School System for 16 years. Susan also owned and operated The Mind's World, Inc., a school supply store for teachers and parents in Tifton, Georgia. In 1991, she accepted a faculty position at ABAC where she taught Reading, Study Skills, and Freshman Orientation, until 1996. While at ABAC she also served as the service provider for students with learning disabilities. Susan's primary duties at the RCLD include testing, writing reports, and reviewing outside documentation.

Alison Kraus, Ed.S., Educational Specialist. Joined the RCLD December 2003.

 

 

Alison received her Masters of Education and Educational Specialist degrees in School Psychology at Georgia Southern University, graduating in 2003. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Georgia. From 1999 to 2001, she was employed with the Clarke County Department of Family and Children Services as a Family Independent Case Manager. Alison worked as a Graduate Assistant for the RCLD for over a year and completed part of her internship at the Center. Practicum and partial internship experiences in School Psychology were completed within nearby county school systems working with children from grades K-12. She is a certified School Psychologist in the state of Georgia. Her primary duties include testing, report writing, and training and supervising Graduate Assistants.

     

    Amanda Pellegrino, Psy.S., NCSP, Educational Specialist. Joined the RCLD July 2007.

 

 

Amanda received her Specialist in Psychology degree in School Psychology as well as her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at Eastern Kentucky University. As a graduate assistant at the EKU Counseling Center, she taught career counseling classes as well as counseled college students experiencing academic difficulty. She worked as a school psychologist in Greenville County Schools in South Carolina from 2002 to 2007 where she served students from preschool through high school age. She is nationally certified as a school psychologist through the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). Her research interests include memory, learning, cognitive processes and learning disabilities.

 

Marolyn's major responsibilities are to provide administrative support to the Director regarding budgeting and human resource activities. Marolyn collects, tracks and reports data relative to in-house assessment of students with disabilities. She maintains office records, and orders assessment materials and equipment for the RCLD. She also assists clients with filing insurance claims for reimbursement, works with Vocational Rehabilitation Services in processing payments.

 

Kathy's major responsibilities are to schedule appointments for interviews, evaluations and feedback sessions, while maintaining the schedule at least 3 months in advance. She corresponds with clients, Disability Service Providers and rehabilitation counselors regarding dates and fees. Kathy meets with each client when s/he arrives for the interview to explain the testing process and complete various forms. She collects, tracks and reports data relative to Outside Documentation of Students with Disabilities. Kathy provides support to the report writers in proofing, making formatting corrections, printing, and making final copies of the reports. Kathy also supervises the archiving of files and maintains the RCLD's Web page .

Heidi R. Moye Senior Secretary. Joined the RCLD November 2007.

Heidi's major responsibilities are to answer the phone, greet students, process incoming mail, and other duties as assigned. She provides support to the clinical staff by proofing test reports, making formatting corrections, printing and making final copies of the reports. Heidi also assists with proofing and printing outgoing letters from the RCLD. Heidi came to the RCLD following three years of employment at Georgia Southern University in the Office of Admissions. She is pursuing a degree in History at Georgia Southern.
