FAQs - E-mail and Passwords

Question: When composing a new message, GroupWise autofills names as I type in the To field. I would prefer to type in first names instead of last names. How do I change this.
Open the GroupWise Address Book
Click View then Name Format
Change it so First Name is first for all address books

Question: When I receive an email, I'd like to add it to my address book. How do I do this?

All faculty and staff e-mail addresses are already listed in the Novell GroupWIse Address Book so you do not need to add them to your address book. We have screen shots with instructions on adding other contacts here - http://services.georgiasouthern.edu/its/tutorials/offcampuscontacts.php

Question: How do I change my GroupWise password?

IT Services recommends that you use the same password for Novell and GroupWise.
To change your Novell password with Windows 2000, press the Ctrl, Alt and Delete keys simultaneously. Click on the Change Password tab and follow the prompts. Choose to synchronize your password to Windows.
To change your Novell password with Windows 98, right-click on the red N in your system tray. Choose User Administration and then Novell Password Administration. Click on Change Password and follow the prompts.

Question: How much disk space am I allowed with my GroupWise account?

GroupWise accounts have a space limitation of 100 megabytes. On the bottom right corner of your GroupWise screen, you can view your Mailbox Size. If you are running out of space, delete some messages (remember that when you delete a message, you are also deleting any attachments) or archive more messages. When you archive messages, you move them off the server and to your computer's hard drive. Instructions are here - http://services.georgiasouthern.edu/its/tutorials/gw_module7.php

Question: When I double-click on an attachment, it opens in the message window. I would prefer that it open in the program instead. How do I change this?

You can open attachments with the associated program (Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.) or you can open it in the GroupWise Viewer. With the Viewer, the attachment opens in the message window. This allows you to get a quick view on the contents but not make changes.

If you right-click on the icon for the attachment, you will see options for either opening the message or for using the Viewer. Or to set GroupWise to always open attachments, go Tools then Options and double-click on Environment. Click on the Default Actions tab. Under File Attachment, choose Open Attachment and click OK.
