| Building Entries | |||
| The main entry to every building shall be distinguished by architectural columns. All building entries shall be fully ADA accessible and be provided with weather protection in the form of canopies, porches or overhangs. Air locks shall be provided at all major entries. Entries to mechanical rooms and other maintenance areas shall be provided with vehicular access to the entryway. |

Custodial |
|||
| Adequate provisions for custodial supplies and equipment storage are required. Each building shall have a minimum of an 80 square foot custodial room for facilities less than 18,000 gross square feet or a minimum 80 square feet for every 18,000 to 20,000 gross square feet in larger facilities. It is preferred to have at least one custodial room on each floor. At least one of the rooms on each floor shall have one 2'x 2' low mop sink with splash guards, floor drain, and one industrial quality hot and cold water mixing faucet with hose bib attachment and vacuum breaker. Provide thresholds that prevent drainage of fluid from closet floor to adjacent floor without inhibiting the passage of equipment. Custodial closets shall be one hour protected and sprinklered. They will also be a single usage area. Mechanical equipment, water heaters, electrical panels, communication equipment or sprinkler system risers and valves shall not be located in custodial closets. |

Telephone, Data, and CATV |

| Telephone and data communications and CATV systems are considered to be a part of the building infrastructure and shall be designed to Georgia Southern standards and installed as a complete operational system in the facility as part of the construction contract. The systems shall include telephone/data combination ports and separate junction box jack for CATV; all cable, conduit and wiring; all electronics required; and complete connection of the facility to the campus telephone, data and fiber optics networks. CATV may be (1) on the fiber network (2)have a separate antenna or satellite dish system dedicated to the facility or (3) connected to the local CATV within the City of Statesboro. Public access telephones shall be provided in high pedestrian areas and shall meet ADA requirements. The local Telephone Company (Frontier Communications) will provide the basic trunk service to and public telephone stations within the building or facility. Provisions for Distance Learning and Cable Television shall be provided in all residence halls and other buildings as required by the program statement. Communications rooms shall be a minimum of 240 (12 feet by 20 feet) square feet for the MDF and 110 (11 feet by 10 feet) square feet for the other communications rooms (IDF's). There will be at least one room on every floor and the rooms shall be stacked above one another. Separate rooms will be provided for CATV. Communications rooms, like custodial closets, are sole use areas. |

Recycling |

| The building design will provide adequate space on each floor for a minimum of three recycling containers. These containers are approximately 24 inches wide and 30 inches deep. In large buildings, two or more recycling spaces may be required on each floor. | |||
Vending |
|||
| Adequate provisions will be provided for the centralized location of vending machines with aluminum and plastic recycling containers in the facility. The space shall be designed so that when the vending machines are in place they shall not infringe on the path of exit. Minimum size shall be adequate for one beverage machine (82 inches high, 36 inches wide and 36 inches deep with a 110v, 20 amp dedicated circuit), one snack machine (same size as beverage machine with a 110v, 20 amp undedicated circuit) and two recycling containers. Larger facilities will require larger vending areas. The size of the vending space shall be coordinated with Georgia Southern. All vending areas shall have resilient flooring , linoleum is preferred to VCT. Vending area will also have a water connection and floor drain. To provide credit card use of the machines, data connections are also required. | |||
Mechanical, Electrical and Communications Rooms |

| The mechanical, electrical and communications areas are for the express purpose intended and are not to be used to accommodate any other function. These rooms will, if possible, have doors that lead directly to the exterior of the facility. There should also be access from a corridor, access through another room is not acceptable. Doors to these rooms will be large enough to accommodate the removal and replacement of the largest item of equipment in the room without disassembly. Vehicular access shall be provided to the exterior doors of these areas. Mechanical rooms at an elevation other than grade with an exterior access, such as air handler rooms, shall have elevators of sufficient size and capacity to convey all equipment installed in the room to the level on which the room is located. Alternate conveying systems to these locations may by proposed for consideration. |

Connections to Georgia Southern University |

| Any system, such as fire alarms or elevator telephones, requiring a connection to Georgia Southern University shall be the responsibility of the contractor. The contractor will pay for any connection, line or dial tone charges to make the connection and operate the system until the project is accepted by the University. See Chapter 11 (Division 14) for additional requirements. | |||
