Data Warehouse News
USG-The University System of Georgia (USG) Office of Information and Instructional Technology (OIIT) issued a revised business practice on the collection and reporting of race and ethnicity in January 2009 to comply with new Federal guidelines. At that time, USG institutions were asked to submit race and ethnicity data to the ADM using the revised race and ethnicity business practice and codes in Summer 2009. USG-OIIT provided a conversion routine for the Summer 2009 term to translate old race/ethnicity codes to new race and ethnicity codes, as well as encouraged USG institutions to resurvey current students and faculty for updates regarding their ethnicity and race per the new federal definitions, http://nces.ed.gov/IPEDS/news_room/ana_Changes_to_10_25_2007_169.asp.
In February 2009, a Georgia Southern team (representatives from student and employee data collection/support areas) was charged to study the federal compliance requirements, as well as USG-OIIT revised business practices, and to determine appropriate strategies for campus implementation and updates. The Georgia Southern University Data Warehouse has been updated with these new codes effective February 11,2010 (will be filled in once feedback is gained-most likely w/i a week). Data Warehouse users are cautioned in comparing trend data related to race, now ethnicity/race, per the new compliance requirements.
