FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSIs it safe? Our number one priority is safety. While there are risks involved with everything you do in life, the climbing wall is an extremely safe environment. Our staff members are all highly trained, and our equipment and facility is maintained and inspected on a regular basis. Participation with the climbing wall is typically no more dangerous than playing tennis or going for a hike. This being said, all participants will be required to sign the appropriate waivers and release forms before being allowed to climb. How much does it cost? The climbing wall is free for all Georgia Southern students, faculty, and staff. Outside groups are charged a modest fee. Please visit the "groups" link on this website for more information. What age do participants have to be? For safety reasons our minimum age for participating in a high ropes program is 16 years and older. For low ropes programs we can work effectively with groups as young as around 12 years. How do I get to the climbing wall? The climbing wall is located near the Georgia Southern University – Recreation Activity Center (RAC). Am I going to die? Yes. Dying is the end of every life. However, we would prefer people not to die at our climbing wall. If you plan to die, please do it elsewhere. At the climbing wall we are always extremely safe. Can I use my own equipment? We do currently allow climbers to use their own harnesses, shoes, and chalk bags after they have been approved by our staff. However, only Southern Adventures' ropes, carabiners, and belay devices may be used at the climbing wall. Do I have to wear a helmet? While we do provide and highly recommend all climbers and belayers wear helmets, we currently do not require this practice. Please use good personal judgment in deciding whether or not to wear a helmet. How do I get more information on the special events? For more information about upcoming special events please visit the link titled “special events”, or stop by the climbing wall. What if I have more questions?
