  CHALLENGE COURSE GROUPS

On-Campus Groups

Our primary mission at the challenge course is to serve the university community. Challenge course programs are provided free of charge for all current Georgia Southern organizations, groups, etc. We have programs specifically designed for all types of campus groups including academic classes, professional/department staff, athletic teams, and other campus groups and organizations. The challenge course can be tailored to fit your group's specific goals and desired outcomes. Please don't hesitate to contact us for more information about these group specific programs.

Can't come to the RAC to use our challenge course? See about letting us come to you. Ask us about coming to your classroom or event by visiting the "contact us" link on this website and putting in an inquiry about us coming to see you.

Off-Campus Groups

Don't fret, off campus groups can also take advantage of the challenge course at Georgia Southern University. We offer a wide range of programs for business groups, local organizations, schools, and community groups. Let us know what we can do for you!

The cost for outside groups is based on the number of participants and desired time frame. We currently charge $15.00/person for a 3 to 4 hour time block, and $30.00/person for an all day event lasting up to 8 hours. All off-campus groups are required to pay a deposit of $50.00 by check before 2 weeks of the requested date, which is non-refundable for group cancellations with less than a 7 day notice. All other payments are due on the day of the program.

FAQ's

  1. Is it Safe?  Our number one priority is safety. While there are risks involved whith everything you do in life, the challenge course is an extremely safe environment. Our staff members are all highly trained, and our equipment and facility is maintained and inspected on a regular basis. Participation in a challenge course program is typically no more dangerous than playing tennis or going for a hike.

  2. How many people can participate on the challenge course at a time?  For both types of programs we require a minimum of 10 participants in order to schedule a course. The low challenge course programs can accomodate groups up to 100+ people in size (split into smaller groups), but the ideal size for a single group is between 10-20 participants. The high ropes course can accommodate up to 25-30 participants maximum during a four hour time block. But again the ideal size is 10-20.
  3. Do I have to be in good shape to do the challenge course?   While many of our challenges can be physically and mentally demanding, most of our activities can be modified to accommodate persons with special concerns. We also practice the concept of "Challenge by Choice" which states that individuals choose their level of participation, and group members are never forced to do something they are not comfortable with doing.
  4. What age do participants have to be?   For safety reasons our minimum age for participating in a high ropes program is 12 years and older. For low ropes programs we can work effectively with groups as young as elementary school age.
  5. What happens in case of inclement weather?   All of the high challenge course activities are done outdoors. In the event of poor weather we will need to re-schedule the programs. Please keep this in mind and have a back-up plan. For low challenge courses we typically reserve both our outside elements and a location in the RAC in case of bad weather. Generally low challenge courses can run rain or shine, but sometimes due to heavy traffic in the RAC they may need to be rescheduled.
  6. When should I put in my reservation request?   In order for us to be able to process your challenge course request and organize our staff to facilitate your course we ask for a minimum of 2 weeks. If it comes in within the 2 week deadline we won't be able to gurantee that your request will occur. That being stated, the sooner you get in the request the better, whether that be 1 month to 10 months.
  7. What if I am unsure about my group objectives?   On the reservations page is a list of possible desired outcomes for a group. If that is not enough help for you, don't hesitate to contact us and with a little information about your group we can probably help you come up with something. Also, your goal could just be to have fun and bond with your fellow group members.
  8. What if I need to cancel my reservation?   Whether you are an off-campus or campus group the sooner you know and alert us the better. That way we can notify our staff, and that they don't have to make any unnecessary preparations. Remember though that if you are an off-campus group if you cancel with the 7 days prior to the course that you lose your deposit of $50.00. You can also always reschedule at a later date too.
