Training

1.  Prospective officials must attend each session in "training week" to be considered for employment.  For the major team sports (flag football, basketball, softball), this consists of three days of clinic work and one or two days of scrimmages.  For smaller team sports (outdoor soccer, indoor soccer, volleyball), this consists of two days of clinic work and one day of scrimmages.  Failure to attend any portion of training without prior communication will greatly inhibit your chance to make the roster (for that particular sport).

2.  Officiating is an "open tryout" - no prior experience necessary.  Many people are deterred from officiating because they "don't know enough" or "have never done it before".  In fact, we experience the greatest success with people who have no prior experience - they can be taught the "right way" and have no bad habits to correct!

3.  To avoid potential class conflicts, all clinics are held in the evening hours.  We ask that if you are serious about officiating, you commit yourself for the entire week of training.

4.  Each sport has a separate training clinic.  If you are an Intramural Sports Flag Football Official and would like to become an Intramural Sports Basketball Official, you must attend the training clinic for both sports.  Employment in one sport does not guarantee employment in another.

5.  Officials' training is a combination of classroom instruction, on-field station work, written evaluation, and scrimmage games.
