Q: What is the difference between Club Sports and Intercollegiate
Athletics?
A: Club sports are student groups organized by students who are motivated
by a common interest in expanding their proficiency,
participation, and competition in a specific sport or recreational activity.
Also, the sport clubs program is partially funded by the Student Activity
Budget committee. Intercollegiate Athletics are comprised of student
athletes who have been recruited by GSU to play a specific sport and
may have been awarded scholarship funding. All GSU Intercollegiate Sports
are listed with the NCAA as sponsored by the University.
Q: What teams do you offer and how do I join one?
A: Clubs are listed alphabetically on the web page. We encourage you
to make contact with the club you are interested in through the email
address listed. You can also contact the CRI office for more information.
Q: Where do club sports meet?
A: GSU club sports meet, practice, and compete in a variety of locations
on and off campus. Most clubs utilize campus facilities such as the
sports complex, Hanner Field House, the RAC, and Southeast Bulloch High.
Facility usage depends on the nature of the team and their requirements
for practice space. Practices are generally held between 3:00 PM and
11:00 PM Monday through Friday.
Q: Are there tryouts for club teams?
A: Limitations may be imposed on membership due to lack of facility
space and time. It is also recognized only so many individuals can take
part in a competition at any one time. The existence of tryouts and
limitations on players vary by club team.
Q: What teams do you play?
A: Georgia Southern club teams participate in competitions with other
clubs, organization, colleges, and universities. Our teams frequently
travel throughout the Southeast to compete against club teams from all
over the United States. Teams have recently traveled to national tournaments
in Alabama, Colorado, Kentucky, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon,
South Carolina, and Texas.
Q: What is the difference between sports clubs and intramurals?
A: Simply, intramurals activities are short-term competitions among
Georgia Southern students. Club sports are for students who want enjoy
a longer relationship (usually both semesters) with their sport of choice
and a group of other students who share a similar interest in that activity.
Q: How do I find more information and contact information for
the clubs at GSU?
A: Contact names and email addresses from each club, and links to their
individual web pages, and other club related information can be found
on the club sports website. You can also call the CRI office at (912)
681-5436.
Q: Are there fees to participate with clubs?
A: Since clubs are student led organizations we allow the clubs to decide
if there will be fees asked of the members. Most clubs do require dues
to assist the operating cost of the clubs, which help to offset the
cost of team travel, equipment, uniforms, and officiating expenses.
Q: Do I have to be a great player to join a GSU club sport?
A: No, most of our clubs are open to all levels including the competitive,
recreational, and instructional participants. (Some have tryouts)
Q: How do I start a new club sport?
A: To join or start a club sport, contact the Club Sports office at
(912) 681-5436.
