Office of Student Loans




Welcome to the Student Loan Office at Georgia Southern University!  The mission of the Student Loan Office is to help student borrowers attain their educational goals and maintain good financial stability by assisting the student in understanding and managing his/her student loans.  This is achieved by providing the student borrowers with loan counseling and information about loan indebtedness and repayment responsibilities in an efficient and professional manner. 

The Office of Student Loans performs functions relating to the University’s participation in the Federal Title IV Loan programs.  These programs are comprised of the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program which includes the Parent Plus Loan; and the Federal Perkins Loan Program.

The operation of the Direct Loan Program and the Federal Perkins Loan Program is a shared operation between this office and the Financial Aid Office.  The Financial Aid Office is responsible for awarding and originating all Federal Loans. 

 

Student Loan Office Direct Loan Responsibilities:

  • Print and Mail promissory notes
  • Receive, review and process completed promissory notes
  • Processing of disbursement of loan proceeds
  • Reconcile loan with the Federal Common Originations and Disbursement Center (COD)

 

Student Loan Office Federal Perkins Loan Responsibilities:

  • Print and Mail promissory notes
  • Receive, review and process completed promissory notes

§         Monthly billing and collection of loans

§         Process deferments and cancellations

§         File with the National Student Loan Data System

§         Report loan information to a national credit bureau
