Dear Students & Parents,
Georgia Southern University Health Services (GSUHS) partners with Highland Campus Health Group to conduct third party insurance billing and collection for professional clinical services students receive at our facility.    In order to make this work for parents and students Health Services has become a contracted participating network “primary care provider” (PCP) in most of the national and regional health insurance plans.

This helps alleviate some of the financial pressures faced by university students and their parents by eliminating some of their out-of-pocket expenses for reimbursable professional clinical services and ancillary services (such as laboratory tests and X-rays, prescriptions, referrals to other specialists) not covered by the semester health fee which are already covered by their health insurance plans.  In addition, it allows Health Services provider prescriptions and off-campus medical referrals to be recognized by parent/student health insurance plan.   Another benefit of this partnership with Highland Campus Health Group is our ability to limit significant increases in the student health fee which is currently well below student health fees of other University of Georgia universities with comparable services.   We do not  "balance bill"  students or parents for the portion of the insurance claims not paid by the insurance, another plus for our students and parents.

We wanted to make sure you are aware that if you receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your health insurance company for any services rendered at the Georgia Southern University Health Center your will not be billed, nor will you have any obligation to pay GSUHS for any co-pays or remaining “patient responsibility” charges beyond what the insurance company pays us directly.   This applies only to services provided at GSUHS for which we have submitted an insurance claim.

The following link will take you to a listing of all of the health insurance plans that GSUHS is currently recognized as a participating network provider.   Please be advised that we have been actively seeking network provider recognition with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBS GA) but have been denied that participation.   No reason has been given for that denial, but we will continue to pursue a working relationship with BCBS GA.

If you have any questions concerning our 3rd party billing and collection process or run into any difficulties with this process please feel free to contact me by e-mail or telephone.

Yours in Good Health,

Paul Ferguson
